Definition

A fenestration is an opening or window. For example, one surgical treatment for hearing problems is to make an artificial opening, or a fenestration, in a certain part of the ear. Fenestration was once used to treat otosclerosis, an abnormal bone growth in the middle ear that causes hearing loss, but it is rarely used now.
