Metabolism refers to all the physical and chemical processes in the body that convert or use energy, such as:

Digesting food and nutrients
Eliminating waste through urine and feces
Breathing
Circulating blood
Controlling body temperature
Contracting muscles
Functioning of the brain and nerves
